UMBRIA & TUSCANY
Umbria, known as the green heart of Italy, is the only region of the peninsula without a seacoast. It lies in the center of the nation, in the heart of the hill country. Medieval towns and fortresses still cling to the hilltop villages, and ancient monasteries nestle in the folds of its steep hills. Olive groves, fruit orchards and tall cypresses accent the green landscape of Umbria, and its woodlands and valleys are bathed in gilded light.
It is no accident that Umbrian painters, then as now, imbued their work with light - such is the Umbrian landscape. This is land of painters and saints, and one can follow the paths they traveled.
