Rome Fiumicino Airport to El Marsam

At Fiumicino, set trip odometer to 0 kms.

Exit Fiumicino and follow signs for the autostrada to Rome and/or  Firenze. You are heading east to meet up with the highway that goes around Rome.

At 13.4 kms,  follow the sign for the autostrada (A1) to Firenze. Keep heading for Firenze.

At 15.4 kms, the road splits with no signs. Bear  left.

At 42 kms, keep heading for Firenze, following Uscita (Exit) 10. You will at first bear right following the sign that says Uscita 9/10, (stay to the right as you have to exit almost immediately again!) and then at 42.7kms bear left at Uscita 10 for Firenze.

At 64.3 kms, is the entrance to the autostrada. Be sure to go in a lane with a picture of someone getting a ticket from the machine (white sign). Do not get in Telepass lane! Take the ticket - you pay when you exit. Follow signs for Firenze. The only rule on the autostrada is that you must turn on your lights when going through a tunnel. There are only two of them, and they are back to back.

At 107.5 kms, exit for Orte.   Follow signs for Perugia/Terni.

At 130 kms, bear right for Perugia/Cesena. Head for Perugia/Todi. Follow signs for Perugia. Do Not exit for Todi.

Keep following signs for Cesena. Cesena is at the northern end of E45 on the Adriatic coast.

At 205 kms, bear left for Cesena.

At 232 kms, exit for Gubbio/Umbertide. As you enter Umbertide you will pass Agip and Esso gas stations on your right. Railroad tracks will be on your left.

At 237 kms, you are at the train station in Umbertide (0.3 kms past the Esso station). The station will be on your left, a pale yellow two story building, with a one story yellow building on the left that says Bar Stazione with a digital red sign showing the temperature and time. There is a small parking lot on your right. Turn right.

This puts you on Unitá d' Italia. Take Unitá d' Italia from the train station. Proceed up the hill to the traffic circle. Proceed into the circle and pass Via Morandi, Via Roma, then take a right on C. Colombo. At the next intersection turn right. This is Via dei Patrioti. You will pass apartment construction on your left - keep going uphill. You will shortly see an underpass going under E45. Turn left on the little road about 50 meters before the underpass!! This little road will bear right and go over the highway. Once on the other side of this little bridge, go right. You will now be on strada bianca (gravel road). Keep to the right on the gravel road, going up the hill. Road is lined with tall hedges and vineyards on both sides. You will come to a fenced villa. Bear left around the villa and continue up the hill. You will see our house up ahead on the left side of the road. Blue sign on the front gate that says EL MARSAM.

The entire distance from the train station to El Marsam is only about 2 kilometers.
